Spatial Dynamics Year 1 Semester 2 - Michael J. Demps

Spatial Dynamics with our professor, Michael Demps. He was very chill, but unfortunatley I did not like making sculptures lol.

20 Sculptures
We had a one week assignment to make 20 sculptures from a list of prompts. Sorry for the mess of pictures. I don't think any of these are worth looking at haha!

Two Potatoes, Three Ways
Our teacher gave each of us two potatoes and we carved them. Some people may have eaten theirs??

Object as a Story
So my object is kinda supposed to resemble a leather bag? I think I made it with cardboard and wrapped it in fake leather. It is not crisply made. In fact it is very janky.

Audio Tour
This is a very cringey audio tour I made critiquing RISD. It follows me, the tour guide, badly making an audio tour as more and more things go wrong. My acting is quite terrible, but it was a good laugh in class.

We did more things in this class such as reading responses and other sound recordings but not something to show here.

Design Studio Year 1 Semester 2 - Yevgenia Baras

Oh man, this was a tough class.

Collages

Word Collage
I chose the word Bitter. Our professor asked me to describe it and I said something about it being a feeling that hangs onto you and doesn't let go. She said to make it do that in the collage so that's what I tried to do. I am not a collage person haha.

Imaginary Architectural Structure
This was a partner assignment which I worked on with Alec Figura. This is a very large piece in pencil crayon which is pretty incredible. I remember many of us were working in the (Nickerson?) workroom, since we all were doing these big pieces in pairs.

History Project
A series we were working on along with our weekly assignments. This one is about my mom and her history, but I could only gleam so much information from her. It's a mix of what she told me and what I think happened based on my experience.

Humour Drawing
So back in highschool, I was in a DND campaign and another player somehow took a picture of me during session and made a meme with it on his phone right then and there. The photo was squashed and stretched in different panels and was also just a very unflattering photo of me which was so funny to me. I took that photo and created a painting of just my face plus some hand signs.

I think this one is mid in comparison.

Final Project
So for my final project I was trying to show the way lighting can change how you see colours. Some of the materials I use only appeared in certain lighting, or would change a lot.
The 6th and 9th in blue light.

2nd in red and green light.

I learned how to use ink in this class and also bought a giant tub of glue that wasn't required. I still have it but it is a LOT of glue.

Drawing Studio Year 1 Semester 2 - (Utzy) Yizhak Elyashiv

Drawing Studio with our professor, whom we call Utzy. I recall he was very nice but had a preference for looser drawings. I think I started leaning slightly more abstract because of this, but I enjoyed it.

String Drawing

Five Abstract Spaces
Based on the previous assignment, but like, more abstract?
Revisions

Line Drawing
This was a very tight drawing and not quite what Utzy was looking for, but is was a big hit with classmates.

Skeleton Drawings
What a drama queen!

Time Drawing
I drew a series of different housing styles through the years in Britain. It's a bit scattered in what type of building but it was fun learning about different eras.

6 Value Drawings

I made an animation with three of these about light. It was my first time trying to animate and I used photoshop which was SUPER janky. Then I learned to compile and animate in after effects. Lots of firsts with this one. People enjoyed it. It's not the most entertaining but I think with the quietness in the classroom and large screen it worked well.

There were so many people in this class that I learned from. One classmate was using the charcoal and making drawings that looked like abstract figure paintings and I had never seen the material used that way. RISD doesn't really teach techniques which is frustrating, but that also makes people use materials in unique ways I wouldn't have imagined and I loved seeing it.

On a side note, I remember climbing out the window with a friend to go on the balcony and as I was climbing back in through the window, the professor walked in LOL. To be fair, the windows only could open a small amount and it was very hard to fit through so it took me a while to get back in!
This was as far it would open. Hehe.

Colour Perception and Expression Year 2 Semester 1 - Bill Drew

We were taught how to paint in this class. This was my first time oil painting! Luckily they gave us the basic paint supplies for it. It wa...
